What Is Bad-Knee.com?

If you asked a random selection of people to describe who gets knee pain, I’m sure most would respond that elderly people or those playing contact sports are most at risk.. This is true, of course, but knee pain can hit anyone at any age. Whether it’s due to growth spurts, an overuse injury or rheumatoid arthritis, pain in the knee can have a huge effect on a person’s life.

I’m definitely no expert in knee pain. I’m not a doctor, surgeon or physiotherapist. I have no formal medical training – the closest thing I have is a degree in physics – so you definitely shouldn’t listen to anything on this website over your surgeon or other healthcare professional. Would you go to a knee surgeon to ask deep theoretical questions about quantum physics? Hopefully not, so take everything on this website as it’s intended – one untrained, frustrated (and uninsured!) man’s opinion. Nothing more..... I really mean it!

Like a lot of people with chronic and unexplained knee pain though, I have a lot to say about the matter! I think most of us have our own theories and opinions about what is causing pain, and have been to see countless doctors, physios and surgeons.

About This Website

When you have a long term injury, it’s only natural to start researching and reading about the problem. At least that’s what I tell myself when I’m up at 1am AGAIN looking at various knee forums and websites.....

I’ve had a hard time collating the information and weeding out the good from the bad though. There is some terrible knee advice online (not to mention in certain doctor’s surgeries), but there is also some useful information. This website is mainly going to be a place for me to write about various conditions that I think could be causing my knee pain. Hopefully, properly researching various problems and writing a post about it will help me to find some solutions. I was going to do this privately, but I thought others might benefit from the information, hence this website came into being.

About Me

Trying to condense my various problems into a single paragraph isn’t easy, but I’ll give it a go. I’m 23, and was previously involved in a lot of sports – mainly football – until around three years ago. I developed severe knee pain on both sides after increasing my running mileage too quickly. After a year of rest and physiotherapy, I had a plica resection on both sides. This solved the initial problem, but I’ve since developed pain below both knees – possibly due to scar tissue or poor tracking. I’ve had a normal and contrast MRI, ultrasound assessment, cortisone injections, physio and alcohol ablation injections but still have no diagnosis. I’ve also (somehow) managed to tear some cartilage in my right hip, which is going to need surgery, hopefully sometime in the next few months.

If you want to get in touch please use the contact form - I’m always happy to hear from anyone who’s suffering or has suffered from knee pain.
